Historic and cultural, exciting and memorable . . . our tour starts in the beautiful setting of South Africa’s oldest city. From Cape Town, travel to Cape Point Nature Reserve for a breathtaking view of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. A day in the scenic Winelands is followed by two nights at a game reserve where the exotic wildlife viewing can include the classic Big Five – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Important: U.S. citizens require a Valid Passport. The passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond return date with at least three (3) blank visa pages. For the Victoria Falls Extension: You must obtain Zimbabwe Visa at point of entry for $30USD, or can obtain in advance. All passengers must pay a departure tax of $25 per person cash at the airport.

Day 1: Depart New York (JFK) or Washington (Dulles) on South African Airways for Johannesburg.

Day 2: Johannesburg, South Africa/Cape Town: Upon arrival at Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo International Airport, proceed to collect your luggage and then clear Customs & Immigration. You will be met by a Lion World Tours representative to assist and escort you to the Domestic Terminal for your flight to Cape Town. On arrival at Cape Town Airport meet your local Club ABC Tours host and transfer to your four star Protea President Hotel. The hotel resort is the ideal base from which to explore South Africa's beautiful Cape and is located along the rocky beachfront at Bantry Bay.
Safety Note: With a wide range of in-house activity choices at your hotel, there will be little need to venture out. However, if you would like to explore the area a bit, Cape Town's main attractions are only a short drive away. Bantry Bay and the hotel itself are relatively safe, but it is not recommended to walk alone at night in the neighboring Sea Point area.

Day 3: Cape Town/Table Mountain: After an early breakfast, depart for the ultimate 'Mother City' experience - designed to orientate you and give you an insight into the magic of Cape Town, South Africa's oldest city. Take a trip up the towering, table-shaped Table Mountain (weather permitting) in a cable car (tickets provided). The new revolving cable cars offer stunning views over Cape Town. The summit of Cape Town's world-famous landmark and national monument is over 3,500 feet above sea level, with spectacular views of the city and ocean. Continue with a Cape Town city tour aboard your private bus. Travel through the historic Malay Quarter and the colorful Malay Quarter of Bo-Kaap; the city center; The Company Gardens; The Castle, South Africa's oldest building; City Hall and Slave Lodge; and go on a Diamond cutting tour. Tonight you will be transferred to a unique dinner experience. Gold Restaurant at the Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town opened recently. Dinner is served outside under a huge awning structure, which can be drawn on all sides should the weather become inclement. Guests should bring something warm to wear around their shoulders, although Gold Restaurant do provide brightly colored Kikois to keep you warm lest you should forget a wrap. There is a set menu which consists of 16 different dishes from throughout Africa. The staff brings the food to your table in African bowls and the dishes and their origins are explained. During the meal you are entertained by beautifully attired singers and dancers. Their costumes were painstakingly researched and designed to reflect the different cultures throughout Africa. Be prepared for a vibrant evening of color, music, food, song and dance; the perfect venue if you want to experience something that is uniquely African! (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 4: Cape Town - Cape Peninsula and Wineland Tour: After breakfast enjoy a full day Cape Peninsula and Winelands tour. Travel along the Atlantic Seaboard passing Hout Bay, known for its rich fishing history. Continue on to Cape Point Nature Reserve for a Funicular ride up to the viewpoint where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. The Cape Peninsula is the thin finger of land in the south-western most corner of Africa with the city of Cape Town at its head. Traveling south towards Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, the land gets narrower until the great Indian and Atlantic Oceans combine into one vast southern ocean, with nothing beyond except Antarctica. Continue along scenic country roads for a classic Winelands tour through spectacular vineyard covered valleys. Visit Franschhoek, first settled by the French Huguenots in 1688. Stop in Stellenbosch, the second oldest European settlement in South Africa with some of the country's best-preserved historical buildings. Tour includes two wine tastings, a cellar tour and change to purchase some local wines. Return to the Protea Hotel President for overnight. (Breakfast)

Day 5: Cape Town: Spend the day at leisure exploring the fascinating city of Cape Town on your own. Cape Town has a diverse range of attractions, sights and activities to offer - here old and new harmoniously converge, in history, architecture, cultural pursuits and the essence of its people. Warmed by the African sun, the city is dominated by a towering, table-shaped mountain, set on a peninsula of soaring, rocky heights and lush valleys, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans converge. Top attractions include taking a taking a ferry to historic Robben Island, South Africa's Alcatraz where anti-apartheid activists, including Nelson Mandela, were once imprisoned; drinking tea at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens; and visiting the Castle of Good Hope. Adventurers might enjoy the numerous hikes and trails at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, with indigenous plants and spectacular views or visit some of South Africa's magnificent beaches. Dinner is on your own. (Breakfast)

Day 6: Cape Town/Johannesburg/Entebeni Game Reserve: After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Johannesburg. On arrival you will be met and transferred by road to Hanglip Mountain Lodge at Entebeni. Entabeni Safari Reserve is situated in the World Heritage "Waterberg Biosphere" of the Waterberg region. Less than a three-hour drive north of Johannesburg, this 22,000 hectare malaria-free reserve boasts five eco-systems. The upper escarpment is predominantly grassland dominated by the most beautiful crags, while a drive down between the cliffs, where a gurgling stream beckons, takes you to the warmer sandy wetlands of the lower escarpment. Located on the lower plateau of Entabeni's 'Yellow Wood Gorge' down a 2,000 foot escarpment, Hanglip Mountain Lodge is set amid the wetlands, plains and the Waterberg's most famous mountains. Your exclusive lodge evokes the romantic Africa of yesteryear with ten luxury en-suite thatched rooms offering a unique blend of luxury and true African wilderness, with views stretching beyond the lake to Hanglip Mountain and the rest of its range. The secluded lodge includes a swimming pool, boma and courtyard, as well as a wellness/beauty center complete with massage and beauty treatments. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 7: Entebeni Game Reserve: Enjoy a morning game viewing activity in this spectacular wildlife kingdom. Encounter the supreme wildlife of Africa, including the Big Five - Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard. Guests enjoy guided game drives and walks led by professional rangers with a wealth of information on game, flora and fauna, as well as the history and geology of the area. Optional helicopter flights can be arranged for an exhilarating experience of a lifetime, offering breathtaking sites and adventures. Optional horseback safaris are offered with an experienced horse master, bringing guests unusually close to nature with a variety of exciting trails and activities including elephant trekking. Spend the hottest part of the day relaxing around the pool or perhaps take a siesta to make up for the early morning wake-up call. Day 8: Entebeni Game Reserve/Johannesburg/U.S.: Take an early morning game drive to track any animals that may have eluded you so far. After breakfast, transfer by road to the Johannesburg Airport for your international return flight to the U.S. (Breakfast)
