Day 1: Depart the U.S: Depart the U.S. from your home airport for China.

Day 2: Beijing: Arrive to Beijing. Beijing is China’s sprawling cultural and political center, as well as a central base to many fascinating sites. Few other Chinese cities offer such a concentrated view of ancient and modern China. Your ABC Destinations Tours Representative will meet you at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

Day 3: Beijing Full day tour of Tian’anmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace: Today your guide will take you on a full-day tour of Beijing. Tour the incomparable Forbidden City, home to two dynasties spanning 500 years. This architecturally stunning 200-acre compound, with more than 800 buildings and 9,000 rooms, houses a vast collection of imperial treasures and cultural artifacts. Visit the Summer Palace, home to China’s largest imperial garden. You’ll also visit Tian’anmen Square, the world’s largest public square, and site of Mao Zedong’s Mausoleum and the Great Hall of the People. Prepare later for a special welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Beijing: After breakfast at the hotel, explore more Beijing sites with your guide. No visit would be complete without an excursion to see the Great Wall, truly one of the greatest feats of human engineering, stretching nearly 4,000 miles long. Begun in the 7th century B.C., final additions were completed in 16th century A.D. and originally built to keep out invaders of the north. Lunch is included during the tour of the Great Wall. You’ll also see “Mingshisan Ling” or Ming Tombs, a final resting place for thirteen Emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Built into Beijing’s scenic foothills, Splendidly carved stone animals dramatically line the road on your approach. Tonight experience an authentic Beijing treat. Enjoy a traditional Peking Duck Dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Beijing/Xi’an: Today we take a morning tour of the Temple of Heaven to see local people doing Taiji and morning exercises. Afterwards we tour a masterpiece of Ming architecture, the Tiantan Temple of Heaven, built for imperial sacrifices conducted on the summer and winter solstices, and one of Beijing’s grandest attractions. After lunch, transfer to the airport for your flight to Xi’an, which was an ancient capital of China for eleven dynasties and the starting point of the famed Silk Road. The cradle of Chinese civilization and inhabited since before the Neolithic era, Xi’an lies 35 miles west of the confluence of the Wei and Yellow rivers. Transfer to The Hyatt Regency Hotel for dinner and overnight (B, L, D)

Day 6: Xi’an: Today we embark on a full-day tour of the Provincial Museum displaying more than 2,000 ancient artifacts reflecting the evolution of Chinese civilization. Visit the amazing underground tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang; guarded by more than 7,000 life-size Terra Cotta warriors and horses, the tomb is one of the world’s greatest archaeological treasures Later in the evening, enjoy a memorable Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show. Day 7: Xi’an/Shanghai: After breakfast we transfer to the airport for our flight to Shanghai, China’s largest city and former “Paris of the East”. Your ABC Destinations Tours local guide will meet you at the airport and transfer to the city for lunch at local restaurant. This afternoon, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour featuring Shanghai’s famous waterfront “Bund” area to see the many stately buildings of European architecture from pre-1949 times. Transfer you to the Shanghai Equatorial hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Shanghai: After breakfast, enjoy a full day guided tour, which includes visits to beautiful Yu Yuan Garden with its many halls and pavilions and the Old City, and then drive through the Xintiandi Area. In the afternoon visit the Shanghai Museum. As the sun sets on our China vacation we top off the evening with a special farewell to Shanghai dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Depart Shanghai: After breakfast we transfer to the airport for your return flight back the U.S. (B)
